Paddlers from all three Tasmanian canoe clubs turned out in big numbers to enjoy hot days on whitewater during the Merry Mersey Madness weekend.
About 100 paddlers took to the water in various craft during the weekend. The incluson of rafting trips enabled many people who would not otherwise be able to paddle the river to get into the whitewater action. Many parents who usually just shuttle their children up and down the river came to see what their children rave about from the safety of a raft, while raft-loads of young children had their appetite whetted for more whitewater adventures.
The more adventurous paddlers added to the madness by having a play on Arm River Falls, while others used the weekend's water as a chance to tackle new sections of the river and play on smaller rapids.
A casual BBQ on Saturday night brought paddlers from all parts of the state together socially, with many old river friends catching up for the first time in years and the children making new friends who they can look forward to seeing at next year's weekend of merry madness.
