Mersey Wildwater Winter Wash Weekend

The 4th annual Parks Tasmania WWWW will be held on the Upper Mersey  from the 3 to the 5 July. The primary aim of the weekend is to provide valuable whitewater time to Tasmania’s elite paddlers prior to competing in World Championships.
This year Luis Wilson and Tom Mountney will be representing Australia in the U.S.A. in August in both classic racing and sprint events. Accommadation  is available on both Friday and Saturday nights at the Arm River Camp for $10/night. All money raised will go towards their travelling expenses. A huge thank you to Parks Tasmania for sponsoring the event. Warm showers post paddling in winter is gold!
All Tasmania’s paddlers are invited to come along and share the water. Weekends like this are a great time to get together and remind ourselves what a fantastic place we live in . There are few places in the world where canoeists can request water at desirable levels on demand and Hydro Tasmania are supportive in creating this dream for us.
The worlds only points score canoe race will be held on Sunday morning at 10 A.M. Split times are taken from 5 points on the river during a classic race. The fastest time for each split will recieve 0 points, the second paddler 1 point …….ect. The paddler with the lowest points at the finish is the winner. Racing in this manner has the benefit of creating interest amongst the competitors as to their consistency during the race and can be used as a tactical tool for coaches to adjust strategies for traditional racing.
Matthew French, Australian Classic Champion, is the defending points score champion and is looking forward to the cold water of the Mersey in winter to display his paddling credentials.
Let’s get together for a splash, a social get together and contribute to our junior wildwater paddlers.
