New AC Award Scheme in action in Tasmania

ACAS 2008, the new award scheme for Australian Canoeing, has already proved a success in Tasmania with instructors old and new attracted to the improved scheme that focusses on the five core components of instructing.

At the Canoe Tasmania Canoe Education Weekend held this weekend, some of Tasmania’s most experienced instructors regained their instructor qualifications, working alongside trainee instructors who included some of the best young whitewater paddlers in the state. The mutual transfer of knowledge and skills between the two generations proved very valuable as the youngsters gained teaching and communication skills from the older paddlers in exchange for current paddling techniques.

With over 50 people from around Tasmania taking part in flatwater, sea kayaking and whitewater courses over the weekend, the fabulous Forth Valley proved again the perfect venue for canoe education.
