The development of new Australian Adventure Activity Standards has commenced to provide national industry best practice guidelines for managing safety during outdoor adventure activities.
The Australian Adventure Activity Standards will have many benefits including:
- Providing a way for outdoor professionals to pool expertise and experiences at a national level, will result in higher quality standards and less chance of confusion.
- A consistent standard throughout Australia will improve industry mobility, and reduce compliance costs for operators working across multiple jurisdictions.
- The overall cost of developing and maintaining standards will be reduced.
- Outdoor activity providers will be able to spend less time keeping tabs on multiple standards, and more time taking people into Australia’s great outdoors.
Further information on the Australian Adventure Activity Standards is available on the Australian AAS project website.
The Core Standards detail the content common to all adventure activities, and is the first standard drafted, providing an overarching system that supports users of any Australian Adventure Activity Standard.
On 30 August 2016 the draft Core Standards were released for a period of public consultation to allow all members of the outdoor community and associated groups the opportunity to provide feedback.
To access and get involved with the public consultation process, visit the Adventure Activity website.
