Paddle Education Weekend (March 21-22)

Paddle Tasmania will conduct the following courses at the Paddle Education Weekend.

Registrations Close: Monday March 2:

Basic Skills and Safety Flatwater Cost: $45 ($30 for affiliated Paddle Tas club members) Turners Beach.

Saturday March 21, 9.30am – 11.30am Turners Beach

Essential skills for safe paddling, suitable for beginner to intermediate paddlers, any type of kayak, to be held on the Forth estuary. Participants must have their own kayak and PFD (life jacket). A minimum of 6 participants required. To register click here.

Flatwater Supervisor/Guide/Instructor Course Cost:Non-member $275, members $265 (plus $170 PA registration fee if seeking assessment for Guide/Instructor if successful)

Saturday – Sunday, March 21 – 22 9am – 4 pm Paddle Australia accredited course for teaching skills and leading trips on flat water. Assessment options for: Flatwater Supervisor,  Guide or Instructor available. To register click here.

Whitewater Skills – Saturday Cost: $115 ($90 for affiliated canoe club members)

Saturday March 21 9:30am – 4pm Forth River

Whitewater Skills – one day course developing whitewater paddling skills on Grade 2-3 water.

Small group instruction from some of Tasmania’s best whitewater paddlers and qualified Paddle Australia instructors. For this course to go ahead it requires a minimum of 4 participants. To register click here.

Whitewater Skills – Sunday Cost: $105 ($90 for affiliated canoe club members)

Sunday, March 22, 9:30am – 4pm Forth River

Whitewater Skills – one day course developing whitewater paddling skills on Grade 2-3 water.

Small group instruction from some of Tasmania’s best whitewater paddlers and qualified Paddle Australia instructors. For this course to go ahead it requires a minimum of 4 participants. To register click here.

Whitewater Guide/Instructor Training Course Cost: Non-member – $275; member – $265

Saturday – Sunday, March 21-22, 9am – 4 pm Forth River

Paddle Australia training course for teaching skills and leading trips on moving water up to, and including, Grade 2 for experienced paddlers. This training course is a strongly recommended pre-requisite for anyone wanting to go for the Paddle Australia Whitewater Instructor Assessment at a future date (1.5 days assessment, separate). This is not an introduction to Whitewater Skills course (see above 1 day courses for Skills development), but for experienced paddlers looking at demonstrating correct stroke technique in an instructing situation on moving water, breaking down and teaching stroke technique, whitewater rescue techniques and the requirements for Whitewater Guide/Instructor Assessment. Whitewater Guide/Instructor Assessment Cost: Non-member $120; Member – $110 (plus $170 PAQS registration fee for successful participants) March 21 – 22, Starting 9am Saturday (1.5 days, finishing lunchtime Sunday). Forth River

Assessment for the Paddle Australia  Award of either Guide or Instructor for guiding/teaching skills and leading trips on moving water up to, and including, Grade 2. To register click here.

Students Whitewater Skills Course (TBC) Cost: Non-member – $30; Member – $20

Saturday – Sunday, March 21-22, Forth River,  Times by arrangement

Two hour, whitewater skills sessions for students run by trainee whitewater instructors working under the supervision of PA qualified whitewater instructors and assessors. To register click here.
