Paddle Education Weekend (October 1-2)

Paddle Tasmania will conduct the following courses at the Paddle Education Weekend.

Registrations Close: Wednesday September 27:

Basic Skills and Safety Flatwater Cost: $65 ($52 for affiliated Paddle Tas club members) Turners Beach. To become a member click here

Saturday October 1, 9.30am – 12.30 Turners Beach

Essential skills for safe paddling, suitable for beginner to intermediate paddlers, any type of kayak, to be held on the Forth estuary. Participants must have their own kayak and PFD (life jacket). A minimum of 6 participants required. To register click here.

Flatwater Supervisor/Guide/Instructor Course Cost:Non-member $325, members $260(plus $170 PA registration fee if seeking assessment for Guide/Instructor if successful) To become a member click here

Saturday – Sunday, October 1-2;  9am – 4 pm Paddle Australia accredited course for teaching skills and leading trips on flat water. Assessment options for: Flatwater Supervisor,  Guide or Instructor available. To register click here.

NB: To successfully complete this course and receive the Paddle Australia Qualification as well as this face to face component registrants must also complete an online quiz, a project and provide a copy of their log book.

Whitewater Skills – Saturday Cost: $198 ($158 for affiliated canoe club members)   To become a member click here

Saturday October 1, 9:30am – 4pm Forth River – 

Whitewater Skills – one day course developing whitewater paddling skills on Grade 2-3 water.

Small group instruction from some of Tasmania’s best whitewater paddlers and qualified Paddle Australia instructors. For this course to go ahead it requires a minimum of 4 participants. To register click here.

Whitewater River Rescue 1 – Sunday October 2  Cost: $112.50 ($90 for affiliated canoe club members)  To become a member click here

Sunday, October 2, 9:30am – 4pm Forth River – 

Whitewater Skills – one day course developing whitewater paddling skills on Grade 2-3 water.

Small group instruction from some of Tasmania’s best whitewater paddlers and qualified Paddle Australia instructors. For this course to go ahead it requires a minimum of 4 participants. To register click here.

Whitewater Guide/Instructor Training Course Cost: Non-member – $395; member – $316 To become a member click here

Saturday – Sunday, October 1-2, 9am – 4 pm Forth River

Paddle Australia training course for teaching skills and leading trips on moving water up to, and including, Grade 2 for experienced paddlers. This training course is a strongly recommended pre-requisite for anyone wanting to go for the Paddle Australia Whitewater Instructor Assessment at a future date (1.5 days assessment, separate). This is not an introduction to Whitewater Skills course (see above 1 day courses for Skills development), but for experienced paddlers looking at demonstrating correct stroke technique in an instructing situation on moving water, breaking down and teaching stroke technique, whitewater rescue techniques and the requirements for Whitewater Guide/Instructor Assessment. For this course to go ahead it requires a minimum of 4 participants. To register click here.

October 1-2, Starting 9am Saturday (1.5 days, finishing lunchtime Sunday). Forth River  Assessment for the Paddle Australia  Award of either Guide or Instructor for guiding/teaching skills and leading trips on moving water up to, and including, Grade 2. To register click here.

Students Whitewater Skills Course (TBC) Cost: Non-member – $30; Member – $20

Saturday – Sunday, October 1-2, Forth River,  Times by arrangement

Two hour, whitewater skills sessions for students run by trainee whitewater instructors working under the supervision of PA qualified whitewater instructors and assessors. To register click here. Note this only runs if there are enough participants going for an assessed qualification for WWG or WWI – you will be contacted upon registration close to confirm details.
