HobartÕs Stewart Bennett has paddled to 3rd place in the 2007 Avon Descent, held near Perth, Western Australia, on the weekend. Sven Bruss from South Africa took out the event, which was his third victory, while local favourite Matt Coutts came home in second. Over 700 competitors took part in this years event.
Held on the Avon and Swan Rivers, close to Perth, the event pushes competitors to the limit during 134 gruelling kilometres completed over the two days.
The Avon Descent is billed as the biggest whitewater race in the World, with over 25,000 people having competed in the event since its inception 34 years ago. The event attracts competitors from Europe, South Africa, New Zealand, as well as a strong local contingent.
