Junior Paddling Update June 6th
We have now broken the Rapid Slayers into two groups with one group being the final five Rapid Slayers with the others to join the DCC Club group.
Our next event at the Forth on Sat 16th June and Sun 17th June is open to all paddlers, you should all have received the Program and info sheet from Emily.
To confirm your attendance please call me on 0438252726 as I will be away from my e-mail next week.
There is a DCC club meeting this Thursday 7th at Bridy oÕRiellys at 8pm , please come to meet some other club members.
Hope to see you at the Forth
I dont have alot to report, other than to say the Huon afternoon was a great success, with some terrific “first time on whitewater” experiences.
The Forth weekend on June 16th and 17th is taking shape, this is our next event, due to the unpredictable nature of water flows, the program must remain changable so stay tuned to either the Flash or the website of Canoe Tas.
Selection for the Rapid Slayers is nearly done, contact will be made on Friday or monday next week.
Junior Paddling Update May 24th
This Sat the 26th is the last flatwater session for the term. Last Saturday was a great success with a few getting wet in the surf and everyone displaying more confidence and control, great progress.
We will meet at the Huonville bridge at 1pm before heading upriver to do a short trip on grade 2 whitewater and then play at Blackfish Creek, we should finish by 4.30pm (provided no one gets their car bogged!)
The weather this weekend could be less than warm so paddlers should come prepared with thermal tops and cags and/or wetsuits, including wet boots if you have them.
If any paddlers want to use the end of the pool at Clarence on Monday pms for rolling practice, you can just turn up and pay the normal $5 to Leigh Wighton ,no coaches are specifically rostered to be there so some parent supervision is necessary
The final 5 paddlers selected into the Rapid Slayers Squad will be asked to attend this weekend on Sat 16th and Sun 17th, so keep your diaries free. There is camping available at the site which is about 8 kms south of the township of Forth on the Cradle Mtn road. It is a 3.5 hr drive from Hobart.
Polo Second Term
The polo roster will start on Monday June 25th,games between 7 and 8.30pm.I am assuming all paddlers are going to join this part of the program. It is a 10 week roster and will cost $70 for each paddler. All equipment is provided. We will also work on the rolling skills between games .I am organising a Friends school team to pick up any paddlers that arenÕt in the TIS team.
All club boats will need to be returned to the trailor next week, I will leave this job with parents. The trailor is at the Mollisons house in Taroona, you will need to call either Rosie or Andrew to coordinate a drop off time .Deposits will be returned via Phil Watkins (father of Daniel),ask him on Saturday at the Browns about how and when.
I will only use the Flash once or twice more. This update is now being posted on the Canoe Tas website. Please put that site in your favourites to continue to be informed
Please bring these on Saturday, this is important
Polo Second Term
The high school roster starts on Monday 25th June. The final Rapid Slaying squad of 5 paddlers will form one team in this comp. For those paddlers not in the Rapid Slayers squad there will be another team of mostly Friends school year 7 kids and St Virgils will have at least one team of year 7 kids.
I will assume that all kids currently in the club group and the TIS group are keen to do canoe polo in second term, if this is not the case please let me know.
Selection into Rapid Slayers Final Squad
The final selection will be done by the coaches in the week after our last session on the Huon .I will have final questionairre on Sat for all paddlers to fill out, the replys to this are used to aid selection and need to be back to me by the Huon trip.Padddlers will be notified by the TIS.
What if IÕm not Selected?
If you not selected you will be a spot in the club junior program which will resemble the TIS program .You will still have access through your club membership to coaching and supervised river trips.
I will only use the Flash once or twice more. This update is now being posted on the Canoe Tas website. Please put that site in your favourites to continue to be informed.
Return of Equipment (for the 2 or 3 who have hired gear)
Club equipment will need to be returned to the club trailor after the Huon trip
2nd term program
Other than the canoe polo our second term program will include another 2 Huon sessions and 1 or 2 Derwent River trips. The Rapid Slayers will also have a weekend at the Forth on June 16th/17th.
That all for now
