Ben Maynard wins first Australian Wildwater Team Selection Race

HobartÕs Ben Maynard achieved an excellent win today against a high class field in the first Australian Wildwater Team Selection Race. This result follows on from an excellent year of results for the 28-year old TIS Wildwater paddler. Ben finished 2008 with a World Cup ranking of 12th, somehow managing to combine his training with work as a CSIRO research scientist.

Finishing less than 2 seconds behind was fellow TIS paddler, Stewart Bennett of Launceston, with former Whitemore paddler and TIS paddler, Mathew French, a close third.

Carol Hurst, of Hobart, continued her domination of the womenÕs class, staying ahead of LeithÕs Andrea McQuitty. These two older paddlers will need to watch out for the younger girls, with DevonportÕs Ruby Hodgetts and Alayne Bonney both showing significant improvement.

NSW paddlers lead the way in the Junior Mens category, with Shaun Wilson, Robert McIntyre and Alex McIntyre finishing well ahead of their rivals.

The race was held in perfect conditions at the Forestry Tasmania Mersey Whitewater Reserve.
